The user-defined X-Cache response-header field indicates if an up-to-date copy of the requested entity was found in a specific cache along the proxy chain.

If a valid document is found in a cache, a value of HIT is returned, otherwise the value is MISS.

Additionally the field value containse the name or alias of the cache which is performing a cache lookup.
